Wilmington High School 2026 Winter Sports Recap

"We had many highlights this winter... Our boys' basketball team won the most games since 2017-2018... We had eight girls' qualify for the district wrestling tournament," stated Troy Diels, Athletic Director at Wilmington City Schools. Troy also shared that boys' bowling had one district qualifier, girls' bowling won their 6th straight league championship, and the swim team had one district qualifier.
2026 WINTER SPORTS RECAP:
Boys Basketball: Conference (5–5). Overall (12–10). 1st Team (Jayceon Kibler). 2nd Team (Chase Fickert, Cameron Griffith) Honorable Mention (Jesse Keith).
Girls Basketball: Conference (4–6). Overall (5–10). 1st Team (Miya Nance). 2nd Team (Kierra Cole, Jayona Kibler). Honorable Mention (Auna Hudson).
Boys Wrestling: Wrestler of the Year and State Qualifier (Josiah Puller). 1st Team (Tristan Skinner, Max McCoy, Josiah Puller, Xander Kretchek). 2nd Team (Kaden Murnane, Braxton Ruddle, Donavon Perdue). Honorable Mention (John Bean).
Girls Wrestling: 9 wrestlers qualified for the District Wrestling meet.
Boys Bowling: Conference (7–3). Overall (7–7).Bowler of the Year (Colt Fisher). 2nd Team (Colt Fisher, Kolton Spurlock, Blake Wheeler). Honorable Mention (Jake Brown).
Girls Bowling: Conference (10–0). Overall (16–0). Coach of the Year (Gary Sheldon). Bowler of the Year (Kiley Comberger) 1st Team (Kiley Comberger, Mackenzie Pyle, Izzy Rhoads) 2nd Team (Abbie Hubbard), Izzy Rhoads also qualified for the state tournament.
Academic Team: Conference (6–5–0). 1st Team (Kameryn Harris, Lillian Keniston, Justin Wooten). Honorable Mention (Espi Espinal)
Swimming: Aidan Benitez qualified for the District Swim meet.
