At the July 17th, 2025, Wilmington City Council meeting, City Service Director Michael Crowe presented the idea of the City of Wilmington purchasing the old East End Schools building from Wilmington City Schools for a potential community recreation center project. Trevor Shoemaker, Executive Director of Main Street Wilmington, and Judge Chad Carey of Clinton County Juvenile Court also presented in support of the project.
Wilmington City Schools’ Director of Business Operations, Curt Bone, was in attendance to provide details about the building. East End is being marketed for $285,000. The building is 32,000 sq/ft on four acres of land. The adjoining playground is not part of the property, but Crowe stated his intention to reach out to the current land owner.
No plan for the community recreation center was presented, nor is the sale final. City Council only made a motion to allow the City of Wilmington to present Wilmington City Schools with an intention to purchase the previous East End School building property.
